The Origins and Development of Pelagic Trawling in Northern Europe
Leiðbeinandi: Guðmundur Jónsson
This study focusses on fisheries history and heritage, with three core aims. The first is to understand the trawl itself - its origins and form, with attention to the evolution of this technology through its adaptations. The second is to contextualise this technology within the inter- and post-war period in order to better understand its contemporary influences, with attention to the factors that influence its spread across Europe. The third is to document and analyse a part of 20th century industrial history, one that is already under-explored and is on teh cusp of no longer being part of living memory.
